Hello everyone –
Unfortunately, I will be losing my accompanist after this spring, but have been authorized to hire a new full-time, certified associate conductor who will share accompanying, conducting, teaching and administrative duties for the Lawrence High School choral program.  This person will need to have excellent piano skills in addition to being a great choral teacher.  I know it is late in the hiring game, but the position should be posted in the next week or so.  If you know of anyone who fits the bill who might be a good match, please have them apply.  The website is:

The Summer Singers of Lee’s Summit is the newest ensemble of the William Baker Choral Foundation, Inc., which was created in Atlanta in 1990, and now sponsors ten musical ensembles based in three states.  Each year these ensembles involve over 500 men, women, and youth in the celebration of great music.
The Summer Singers of Kansas City was formed in 1999. The summer-only chorus of 150 voices begins rehearsals in early June of each year and holds 8-10 rehearsals in a fun workshop setting with an emphasis on experiential learning. The 2014 Summer Singers of Kansas City will join with distinguished solosits and members of the Kansas City Symphony in an all-Handel program featuring the DETTINGEN TE DEUM, and two CORONATION ANTHEMS: “Let They Hand Be Strengthened” and Zadok the Priest”. Performances will be Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon, August 16 and 17.  Rehearsals begin Tuesday, June 3rd.
The 2014 Summer Singers of Lee’s Summit will join with distinguished soloists and a chamber orchestra of players from the Kansas City Symphony to perform Mozart’s MISSA BREVIS IN D, K194.  There will be one performance on Sunday, July 27th.  Rehearsals begin Thursday, June 5th.
NO AUDITION is required for membership in the Summer Singers of Kansas City or Lee's Summit, but music reading ability is a must.  Choral experience is highly recommended.  All adults and mature youth are invited to participate.  (Youth under 16 may participate only if a parent or guardian is also a registered member of the Summer Singers.)

Ollenberger Family

Please see the following message from Secretary Elise Peterson concerning KCDA member Texanna Ollenberger and her family.

---

Dear Colleagues:

Our dear friend and colleague, Texanna Ollenberger and her family need our help!  Texanna’s 10-year old granddaughter, Anna has brain cancer. Anna is the daughter of Rolland & Jamie Powers.  Things were going well for Anna; the doctors thought that the course of treatment was working; however, recent testing has determined this not the case and Anna is no longer eligible for the clinical trial. Unfortunately, the cancer is now rampant in her body and new tumors are being found.  In addition, medical bills are mounting - the community of Paola is rallying and putting together fundraisers to help, but the family can use our help!!!  Feel free to join Anna’s Facebook page “Angels for Anna” which talks about all the community fundraisers that are being done for Anna and ways you can help with these fundraisers.

Texanna has blessed so many people through her incredible teaching, faith and loving personality.  Her profound effect on choral music has certainly made a difference in our lives!  If you would like to help, please pray and send words of encouragement to her and her family - her address is 27430 Woodland Rd, Paola, Ks 66071.  If you are interested in making a financial donation to help with cancer treatment and mounting medical bills, we know the family would be grateful.
