Good morning, KCDA!
Just a reminder that tomorrow, Friday, March 6, is the final day to receive the discounted KMEA rate of $85 register for the 2015 Summer Convention. This discount applies only to active members. To register, click here and choose "KMEA Rate."
This year's summer convention promises to be the best yet, with a new location, internationally renowned headliners, a new Thursday evening activity, and the inaugural performance of the Kansas All-State Men's Choir.
To accommodate all of our additions, we're moving across town to the Topeka Capitol Plaza Hotel and Convention Center. We're also excited to feature headliners Dr. Andre Thomas (Director of Choral Activities and Professor of Choral Music Education at Florida State University), and Dr. Eric Barnum (composer and conductor), and performances by the Heartland Men's Chorus (Dustin Cates, Artistic Director), as well as two Honor Choir ensembles - The All-State Women's Choir (Andrea Ramsey, clinician), and the first ever All-State Men's Choir (Jake Narverud, clinician). Information about each of these honor ensembles is available here. Submission deadlines are Friday, March 27.
Thursday night also features a new event - an All-Convention Sing: we will combine with the members of the All-State Ensembles to rehearse and perform a work under clinician and headliner, Dr. Andre Thomas. Additional opportunities include reading sessions for all levels, ages, and ensembles, as well as sessions by Mary Lynn Lightfoot (composer), Dr. Robert Bode (UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance), Dr. Michael Hanawalt (Wichita State University), Dr. Mark Bartel (Friends University), Dr. Eph Ehly (UMKC Conservatory Professor Emeritus), and Ms. Gretchen Harrison (ACDA Repertoire and Standards Chair).
